MIGHTON CELEBRATES 35 YEARS

Mike Derham

2018 marks a milestone in the history of Mighton Products. Founded in 1983 and led by Chairman Mike Derham, the window and door hardware specialist has come from humble beginnings and seen some incredible highlights during the past 35 years.

Beginning his career as a joiner himself, predominantly refurbishing and producing timber sash windows, Mike quickly became aware of how poor the quality of hardware seemed to be in the industry. With an aim to right the wrongs Mighton Products was born, and as Mike explains, continues to evolve and build on its strengths:

“Throughout our 35-year history, Mighton has always remained committed to continual investment into research and development and the company’s growth. Our product ranges have diversified greatly over the years and following significant investments we have expanded in to new areas, including workshop machinery for our professional joiners, such as the Mighton X-Cut and Scribe-It machines. Additionally, through a solid partnership with Netherlands-based paint specialists Anker Stuey Verven BV, we have developed and brought the Mighton Anker Stuy paints and stains range to the UK market, which has, so far, received glowing reviews.

“Growth is not only evident in our products, but our people and premises too. The steadily growing Mighton team is made up of many long-standing employees and we remain as close knit today as when the company first began. Our investment in our team has seen the recent appointments of Marketing Director Jim Herrington, who is helping to take the Mighton brand to the next level through an updated website and new catalogues as the product offering expands, and David Lambert joined the company last year as Warehouse Manager. David’s appointment came following our significant investment in a new on-site warehouse facility, constructed to support and meet our growing product range and customer demand. Of course, without our loyal customers we wouldn’t be celebrating this milestone, and we are proud to work alongside such specialists in the joinery industry, some for many years.”

A customer of Mighton’s since the early days is Malton-based Norton Joinery, who believe Mighton are a stand-out brand in the window ironmongery market. “Mighton do not stand still and over the years have continued to improve and develop products, earning their reputation as a market leader in the industry, predominantly with their sash window hardware.” Explains Director Mark Fairweather. “With 43 years in the industry, we like to think we manufacture a quality product and believe using ironmongery from Mighton complements our product.”

Another industry leader keen to congratulate Mighton is British Woodworking Federation Chief Executive Iain McIlwee. “The wood products manufacturing sector has evolved from providing wood components to fully finished construction products, and the supply chain and companies such as Mighton are intrinsic to this transformation.

“The BWF has enjoyed a long relationship with Mighton, who regularly get involved in our technical meeting, contributing to the debate and sharing their considerable knowledge. They learn from the challenges that the industry faces and develop solutions and services to support the modern woodworking business. We very much look forward to working with Mighton for the next 35 years to ensure that our sector continues to go from strength to strength.”
