SHELFORCE MANAGER TALKS INCLUSIVITY AT MAJOR INDUSTRY CONFERENCE

The Business Manager at a Birmingham-based window and door manufacturer has been speaking about the benefits of a fully-inclusive workforce at a major industry conference.

Shelforce specialises in providing high quality products to local authority building projects, is Birmingham City Council’s chosen manufacturer of choice.

The company employs people with a range of disabilities which highlights the strengths of a fully inclusive workforce.

Howard Trotter was among a stellar line-up of speakers invited to discuss and debate the biggest issues facing the glazing industry at the 2019 Glazing Summit, which took place at Edgbaston Stadium and Conference Centre, Birmingham.

He joined Edgetech MD Chris Alderson, Mellissa Barber, Head of Business Services at Dribuild, and Lis Clarke, BFRC Operations Director, on the stage for the Barriers to Growth debate which looked at how the skills shortage can be tackled and how more young people can be attracted into the industry.

“I was delighted to be asked to speak at the Glazing Summit as it’s important to take responsibility for the skills shortage as an industry,” commented Howard.

“At Shelforce, we’ve benefitted hugely from the in-built resilience of disabled workers – it’s about the ability, not the disability.

“Keeping our workforces diverse is vital when it comes to helping to combat the skills shortage and it’s important that, when we have good people with the right attitude we invest in them.

“I hope that by speaking at the Glazing Summit I was able to convince some of the window and door firms present to adopt our inclusive approach.”

The Glazing Summit is the annual conference for installers, fabricators and suppliers and attracted almost 350 industry leaders, 23 sponsors and 25 expert and keynote speakers.

Organisers Insight Data and Purplex Marketing announced that it will be an annual event and Howard added: “Glazing Summit 2019 was a great day and it’s brilliant that it’s set to become an annual event as it provides the industry with the perfect opportunity to get together and talk about the challenges we all face.”
