MAC Site Services has demonstrated how innovative installation methods can dramatically cut costs, improve safety and accelerate programmes, after saving £160,000 on a major high-rise window replacement project using the Stronghold® Anchor.
The 15-storey project at Hammond and Dickson House in Stoke-on-Trent involved the removal of 250 original single glazed steel windows, manufactured by Crittall Windows, and their replacement with modern uPVC units.
Traditionally, a project of this scale would have required full external scaffolding, at an estimated cost of £160,000. Instead, the owner of the building was looking for an alternative to scaffold and opted for the Stronghold, enabling the entire installation to be completed safely from inside the building.
Using the Stronghold, MAC removed and installed all 250 windows internally, eliminating the need for scaffold altogether. As well as delivering a six-figure cost saving, the approach reduced overall programme time, with the project completed two weeks ahead of schedule.
The Stronghold® Anchor is a revolutionary, self-contained, internal barrier safety system designed specifically for window and glazing installers working at height. Fully tool-free and requiring no drilling or fixings, it causes zero damage to walls or floors and can be assembled by two operatives in under 10 minutes.
Once in place, it provides secure anchor points for harnesses and load straps, allowing unrestricted movement while maintaining the highest levels of operative safety. The system can safely span openings of up to five metres and support up to three engineers simultaneously.
“The Stronghold is an excellent safety system that has helped us complete the project safely and ahead of schedule,” said M. Charters, Project Manager at MAC Site Services.
“Feedback from our fitters is incredibly positive and they have requested that any work at height, especially on tower blocks, is completed with the Stronghold. This is because they feel much safer being able to work from inside the building, rather than on a scaffold.”
Stronghold founder and owner Daniel Cheddie said: “This project is a perfect example of what the Stronghold was designed to achieve. By removing the need for scaffolding, MAC saved significant time and money while improving safety for their operatives. It shows how home improvement and installation businesses can transform high-rise projects by working smarter from the inside.”
